Coming from
Paris to San Antonio, living and working for 3 months at the
Majestic Ranch Art Foundation in the Hill Country has been a
gold mine for the new works of French artist, Anne
Ferrer. Anything found or observed in those wild, almost
untouched hills is a pretext for new works: A large set of reindeer
horns, coyote and wild pig tracks, shell fossils, birds, snakes and
spiders and amazing spiraled dried patties from the ranch cows are
inspiring discoveries that are totally "alien" to Ferrer.
The
"alien" has found its way into drawings that Ferrer has
been working on since she arrived. Whimsical pregnant pink squirts roll
over Texas country furniture made of wood and leather flowing forth
from a taxidermy white tail deer's mouth. Organic goo intermingles
with horns that have been dropped after the rut. Ferrer creates
drawings that capture the in- process of internalizing the new
and exotic, giving that experience a delicious and scary feeling of
total strangeness.
