Seth Johnson exposes the mystical impulses that are deeply ingrained into the most vehemently 'rational' subcultures in his newest installation, "Dead Void Heretic".  Johnson's work, which include paintings, prints, sound, and sculpture, pit the ecstatic nihilism and fervent negativity of punk against itself in effort to uncover punk's confused moral imperatives. Zen Buddhism, drunken metal heads, mesmerism, religious ritual, and safety-pin-through-the-nose semiology meet on a level plane, and open the possibility of a revised understanding of the aggressively antisocial. After all, are not all images carved from both shadow and light?
